Pete’s Favourite Horror Stories of 2013 – Part One

In recognition of the fact that reading stuff is probably the most interesting thing going on in my life at the moment, at least that I can talk about in a public forum, I’ve decided to repeat last year’s trick of compiling an ongoing Top Twenty of my favourite horror stories of 2013 (and, as soon as I have a spare moment, I intend to continue with the 2012 list, as I’m still reading a lot more 2012 stories than 2013).

We are at that moment in the reading cycle of a busy reviewer when so few of the titles I’m reading were published in the current year that I’m barely able to complete a Top Twenty and nearly every story I’ve read with a 2013 release date will appear on the list. (For the statistically minded, I’ve so far read twenty five stories with first publication in 2013, though those from Steve Rasnic Tem’s collection I read in 2012 from an ARC provided by the publisher.) Basically then, at the moment this is all pretty much meaningless, but it gives me something to do, and it should grow slightly more significant as the year progresses.

So, for what it’s worth, Pete’s Favourite Horror Stories of the Year So Far:-

Might get Onion Songs. Unfortunately Dark World: Ghost stories doesn’t seem to be available for my USA kindle. And I’m thinking–million dollar postage and handling for a hard copy. In any case, thanks for good info.

“Onion Songs” is a brilliant collection, so you’d be in for a treat David. And last time I checked “In a Season of Dead Weather” was free on Smashwords.
