This is embarrassing – I’d always thought it was ‘four calling birds’.
I saw Peter Gabriel at Earl’s Court, as part of WOMAD (World of Music and Dance), a festival designed to show off music etc from all around the world, with particular emphasis on Africa, and for which he was one of the prime movers, if I remember correctly all these many years later.
We wandered round the exhibition centre for much of the day, taking in the different acts, and then settled in for an evening of Mr Gabriel.
Kate Bush was one of the special guests who joined him on stage, the two of them singing hit ‘Don’t Give Up’, and at one point he crowd surfed, which totally took me by surprise as I’d always considered him a bit strait-laced for something like that. My friend T, who was pregnant, left the concert hall with her husband because of the weird smelling stuff that was being smoked on all sides – she was worried about possible harm to her baby.
This song seems appropriate just now, for all the wrong reasons.
